The Imps of Amity Hall Hotel - Duncannon, PA

Amity Hall Hotel located in Duncannon, PA is host to a strange sort of haunt. Long ago, before the days of the Civil War the building was a residence.  Apparently, the man went crazy one night and killed the entire family.  The woman was found stabbed and beaten to death on the front porch. The husband and kids were found upstairs.  After murdering his kids, he took his own life.

Over the years the house was used as a hotel for travelers along the Pennsylvania Canal route.  It served as a hospital during the Civil War.  Unexplained sightings have taken place both inside and outside of the house. Particularly in the upstairs, strange blue or white lights have been seen.  Sometimes glowing eerily, sometimes bright flashes.  An apparition of a woman has been seen staring out of the attic window.  These paranormal occurrences seem particularly active when men are present.

Outside of the Hotel in the parking lot, there have been sightings of small ominous looking dark shadowy figures roaming around the parking area.  It is believed that these are a sort of shadow being of imps which are a demon like creature. These figures are seen predominantly when males are present and linger outside their vehicles. Perhaps these are the spirits of the murdered children roaming the grounds, causing mischief whenever they can searching for their murdering father.

  1. Can you describe how to get to the house? I know its private property but I'd love to at least check it out from the road. Is it by any chance near an old decrepit canal lock?

  2. Yes, it is along the canal, however rumor has it that it burned down. All that remains are a pile of bricks and ruble and it is also private property. Although some claim they have still experienced paranormal activities around the ruins!

  6. I've gone there numerous times over the years. The first time I went there I visited in series of 3. It wasn't until the 3rd time I went there that I saw the blue lights upstairs. The light shot down the hallway and I chased it down the steps. It wasn't until I got home that I started "seeing" things. My brother and I were riding in the back seat of a friends Rodeo when we noticed a woman standing outside of her house in a night gown staring at us. She then ran through the yard into the side of our car and we flipped out and got out and there was no one there. A few nights later my friend had a dream that there was an all black figure standing over his bed and it told him he would feel something in the count of 3. He felt 2 hits in his chest that woke him up. The 3rd hit he felt was while he was awake. He woke up, flipped the lights on, and saw his cat standing in the corner of the room with it's hair sticking up. As for me I took a green neon sign that said Amity Hall out of the basement and took it back to my place. For a few months while I sat in my room I could see an all black figure in the corner of my eye duck behind my couch. After a while it it didn't bother me as much because I tired to ignore it. At the time I started seeing this girl and had her over to watch a movie with me. Out of no where she screamed and told me she saw someone duck behind my living room couch. From there on out I never seen it again. Years later (now 2012) I've gone back 2 times and I've started to notice noises and disturbances at home again. I don't know that I'll be going back for a 3rd time....

  7. I went there today with my boyfriend. We talked to a local resident whom went inside year's ago. He seemed kind of frightened when he told us he went inside year's ago and things were hovering, moving, he seen an apparition of a women, footsteps behind him. He went on with his story for an hour. ANYWAYS...The building is burnt but stands strongly, it is fenced in and the local police put a security system around the gates. If you touch the fence to try and get in the police will be alarmed. Something kept pulling me in, like seducing me to enter. My boyfriend felt a strong grip around his throat. He was actually gasping for air. Then I remembered the woman hates men. I said loudly he's not here to hurt you, we wanna help you. And all the sudden he could breath and I felt cold. Remind you it was 80 degrees out and I felt cold. I heard a whisper in my ear that said help me. I later learned the women was beaten and stabbed to death by her husband. I wonder to myself could she be reliving her death. I don't know but I can't get the experience or place out of my head!

  8. It is burnt but still stands. Local residents said a group of kids went in to party. They lite a candle and eventually fell asleep. The candle was knocked over. Medivac had to land in the parking lot. One of the boys was pronounced dead and other's had smoke inhalation. So that's how it was burnt. Also maybe the reason why police set up a security system around the fence. I was also told the police have camera's set up but they are not visible. Atleast I didn't see them. But there are no trespassing and keep out sign's.

  9. Nobody died in the recent fire. Here is an article about the boys who were responsible. Boys who had no business being there. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/10/2_plead_guilty_to_arson_charge.html

  11. I was just there a couple days ago, live nearby, always creeped out by that exit like its a good place to drop off a body, bad history, recent history of a torso found along the river, the place is originally 1748 but nearby is the original Amity Hall 1648, like perhaps a Masonic Lodge, why else would they call that building a Hall? and built when William Penn was 4. further investigations pending at the historical society tomorrow then will write a historical horror story as i have done before. I'm glad i am a 3* HPT for 33 years of the 47 year old in PA COC which goes back to England and then to France probably late 1700s to early 1800s so i have the magickal protection for such forays into this twisted little area. BTW a dead cat led me there, a big black vulture was on the "new" AHIAML, large black snakes inhabit the "old" AH.....

  13. I've visited amity hall a few times as a teenager. About 15 years ago, on one occasion, we were upstairs, traveling through the rooms and a door slammed shut, sepetating me and my friend from the rest of the group. The doors were large and heavy. There is no way it would have shut on its own. Needless to say, it scared all of us and we bolted out of there and never went back. Im sad to hear it's gone, i would love to go back and photograph that place.
